Collection Strategy Cross-Functional Team

Charge

To provide feedback and guidance for decisions pertaining to Clemson University Libraries’ collections, including guidelines and policies. The Team members will work together to evaluate resources under consideration for new subscriptions as well as underutilized resources for potential cancellation. The Team will work to develop a comprehensive collection development policy for the Libraries. The Team will provide routine communication to the Libraries regarding collections decisions and keep documentation updated. The Team notifies the selectors of monographic funds allocated, the methods used for allocation, and the timetable for spending them.

The Team shall meet regularly. Meetings shall be called at the request of the Chairperson or at the request of two or more elected faculty members. Faculty members may ask the Team to review its decisions. In the case of further disagreement, the faculty member may appeal the Team’s decision to the Dean. The Dean’s ruling is final.

  • Support informed collections decisions
  • Develop and maintain collection policies
  • Evaluate and manage library resources
  • Ensure transparent documentation and communication regarding collections decisions
  • Advise on allocation of collection funds

Members elected by the Library Faculty: One representing the architecture, art and humanities selectors; one representing the business, education, nursing and health sciences, and social sciences selectors; one representing the agriculture, engineering, and sciences selectors; and one member from the faculty at large.
