Campus Email Issues

At 3 pm yesterday we experienced a hardware failure that took down one of the CCIT Exchange email clusters that serves roughly a third of faculty and staff.  Student accounts were not affected.  Affected users would not have been able to send or receive email. Messages sent to these users will be held in queue and delivered when their mailbox is brought back online.

CCIT staff are currently recovering services for affected users, with some already coming back online overnight and others to come back during the day today.  We have had staff working throughout the night and are hoping to have all users to be back online today.  Some mobile devices have shown periods of intermittent email connectivity due to high volume and load caused by the offline exchange clusters.

We want to apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We will send out a status update as more information become available.

Java 7 Update 65

There is a Java update that is coming up today. It is Java 7 update 65. Java always wants to be your friend and install extra stuff. Today it is Ask search engine stuff, changing your home page, changing your default search and or a toolbar. Please uncheck(2nd screen) that so you don’t end up with stuff you don’t need or want. When it is done it will more than likely want to restore any security prompts(default option) after it installs. This means sites like Kronos will ask you to allow Java to run so make sure and check the “Allow and Remember” options and any other prompts to let it run on sites that use Java. If it is not a site you are sure about then don’t allow it to run. One of the first things it most likely do is take you to Java’s website to verify the install.
